Hong Kong schools are well served by the Internet infrastructure; all computers are networked and connected to the Internet via Broadband plus wireless network. E-learning platforms exist at all schools although the level of sophistication differs from school to school. To further realise the potential of IT, the Hong Kong Government is proposing to overhaul schools’ IT infrastructure and every classroom with WiFi access. Promotion of e-learning in schools is high on the Hong Kong Government’s education agenda, including the development of e-learning resources for the enhancement of learning and teaching.

Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS) are an initiative of the government of Kazakhstan intended to educate the future intellectual leaders of the country. Five new-generation colleges to be launched in Kazakhstan by Kasipkor Holding. The Government aims to qualitatively change the content in colleges, educational processes, to improve the material and technical base, to improve the training and skills of engineering teaching staff of colleges.

Country profile:

• The Philippines is now one of the fastest growing economies in Asia with an average GDP growth of 67% for the last three years. It is the second largest market in ASEAN in terms of population (103 million and increasing at 2% per year.)
• The Philippine government gives high priority to education.  This sector gets the highest share of the national budget.  The Department of Education budget allocation increased from 207.2 billion pesos in 2011 to 336.9 billion pesos in 2014.The current administration recognises the need to improve the quality of education provided by Philippine schools.  A recent reform implemented by  the government is the adoption of the K + 12 programme which involves mandatory kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four  years  of Junior High School,  and two years of Senior High School) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment and entrepreneurship.  The main driver behind this new policy is to make the Philippines a more competitive country.  
• Philippines is one of the top English speaking countries in the world.  English is the medium of instructions both in public and private schools.  It is also the official business language.  The private sector is investing more in universities.  The Philippine Constitutions requires at least 60% Philippine ownership of educational  and training institutions.  Foreign entities can have 40% stake in the operation.

UKTI Singapore are looking to meet all Ed tech Exhibitors UK companies.

Singapore aspires to be a centre for innovation in the use of infocomm technologies for the education and learning sector.

 The value of training sufficient ICT mentors in the school system to share good practices (e.g. ICT-based lesson plans) with other teachers via The ICT Connection – an online platform. 

The Fourth Masterplan for ICT in Education will be launched in late 2015 / early 2016 – key objective is to bridge students’ digital interests to the way they learn in school to achieve meaningful learning outcomes. There is likely to be a focus on enhancing teachers’ ICT competencies. 

UKTI Trinidad & Tobago are looking to meet UK companies including suppliers of:

Trinidad & Tobago’s education & training sector is controlled primarily by the government where universal access to quality education from pre-primary to tertiary level remains a top priority in national policy. In the 2015/16 national budget the sector through the Ministry of Education, received the 2nd highest allocation in the budget.

Due to the expansion of public teaching institutions, and the further increase in classroom stock, there are opportunities for UK companies to supply (i) furniture for early childhood care centres, where approximately 31 centres are expected to be built in 2016 and; (ii) smart-furniture, fixtures, and state-of-the-art equipment to HE institutions. This also includes demands in other areas to include library information services and skills development institutions.  

In 2016 the construction of a Science City is expected to commence, which will change the model of engagement of the public in science and technology, by reaching out to broader segments of the population, and assist in building a more diversified knowledge-intensive economy through Science and Technology platforms.

Strategic Plan: The Prime Minister launched the ‘Education Development Strategic Plan for 2011-2020’ to overhaul the entire education system: ‘It is imperative to conduct radical and comprehensive innovation of Vietnamese education in the direction of standardisation, modernisation and internationalisation’

Programme: The Government is urging for management and finance reforms in the education sector to improve education quality: improvement in proficiency in foreign medium of instruction, reduction of textbook contents, adoption of IT and more investment in schools.

Opportunity:  Supply of technology and equipment including teaching devices, E-learning tools, resources and infrastructure, etc.
